Shahid Afridi in Bankruptcy Shock
Downpayments had been made and contracts signed for a new house, new Ferrari and a new yacht. Shahid Afridi expected to make a cool $750,000 minimum in the IPL auction.
Afridi’s confidence had been sated by the fact that the IPL had been using his name and picture to build up the hype in advance of yesterday’s auction.
As arguably the best T20 all-rounder in the World, Afridi believed he would be simply rolling in the dosh.
So he went out and spent it using the old plastic fantastic. Or so it has been alleged.
And then politics took over from sport, Afridi was omitted along with all the other Pakistani players and apparently he has been left with commitment outlays in excess of $1m.
Lalit Modi has made yet another enemy. And the bailiffs have found another friend.
Kamran Akmal was luckier. He was going to follow suit but managed to drop his wallet and mislaid it.
